A day in Douarnenez
No timetable, but a rhythm. Structure in the morning, real life from noon.
MorningsLessons
Three hours, Monday to Friday, alone or as a pair and tailored to your level. We sit at the table looking out on the garden, work with my booklets and prepare what is coming up outside in the afternoon. Whatever stuck the day before, we catch up on.
AfternoonsBeach
After lunch the coast is yours. The Plage du Ris is a few minutes from the centre, wide and almost endless at low tide. Swim, read, do a cartwheel or simply watch the fishing boats. And chat about the weather with the neighbour on the next towel, in French of course.
Food
At the Rosmeur harbour there is fish that was still in the water that morning, in a crêperie a galette with andouille and a bowl of cider. Ordering, asking what is fresh today, chatting with the waiter. That is a lesson without a table.
Culture
Douarnenez is a town of artists. Small galleries in the lanes, the Port-Musée with its old boats, exhibitions and readings. And an independent bookshop where you quickly lose track of time talking.
Hiking
The GR 34 coastal path runs right past the town. From the Plomarc'h over the cliffs to the Pointe du Millier with its little lighthouse, through heather and gorse, the sea always on your left.
At the weekendLonger outings
After the first week, a break to explore. Pont-Croix for instance, a small granite town on a hill above the Goyen, with the church of Notre-Dame de Roscudon and lanes leading down to the river. By bus, by bike, or together with me one afternoon.
Cycling
Bikes can be hired in town. Along the bay to Sainte-Anne-la-Palud, over the dyke to the beach, or through the hinterland to Pont-Croix. Flat enough for everyone, with a picnic by the water.
On the trail of history
Menhirs, dolmens and gallery graves simply stand in the fields here, like the Allée couverte de Lesconil. Add chapels with calvaries such as Languidou. History you can touch.
Festivals
In summer every village celebrates. The Fête de la Bruyère in Beuzec with costumes and flower carts, the boat festival in the harbour, open-air concerts. You do not understand everything. You are part of it anyway.
Self-study
For the weekend you get a pack of podcasts and exercises. Done in the bookshop or the café, it is not homework but an afternoon.
EveningsEating out
In France the long dinner is not a break but the main part of the day. Douarnenez has small restaurants with tables for ten, where the menu changes with the catch. We go once together, the rest of the time you have the sentences for it.
Celebrating
In summer someone plays at the harbour almost every evening. Breton bands, a fest-noz with dancing in a circle, concerts in the old fish hall. You do not need to know how to dance. People simply take you along.
Accommodation
I recommend a room with local hosts, with a window onto the harbour and breakfast at the family table. Then the lesson continues over dinner without feeling like one. I help you find it.

For anyone who wants to turn a holiday into a language trip. You can come alone, with a friend, with your partner or as mother and daughter, even at different levels or preparing for the same exam. I put the morning course together for you, and in the afternoon it is off to explore.
